Were To Drink… Honky Tonk in Chelsea, a New York-inspired restaurant and bar, with white reclaimed swimming pool tiles, Japanese ship lights and beer and tobacco infused cocktails.

It’s not very often you get to sample a slice of the Big Apple without paying the big bucks and flying across the world. Last week, however, I got to do just that with a visit to Honky Tonk, a new restaurant in Chelsea. The first thing that hit me when I walked in was the atmosphere. Guys laughing at the bar, groovy tunes filling the room; it was going to give me a taste of New Yoik, alright. The decor was the perfect blend of modern chic and quirky cool. After being seated by the far-too-beautiful waitresses in chequered plaid shirts, it was time to delve in to the menu.

For starters, I went for the chicken quesadilla’s, while my boyfriend went for Welsh rarebit. The quesidilla’s were incredible, five triangles of pure, gooey, cheesy amazingness. As for the rarebit - it was the poshest cheese on toast I’d ever seen. Cocktails in between courses made us feel extremely after-hours cool, with their quirky names (mine was a Wibble).

For my main course, I went all out and had pork ribs. It wasn’t your ordinary ribs-fries-coleslaw meal, however. The ‘slaw included slices of fresh apple, which made it taste incredible, the fries had rosemary seasoning and the ribs were A-MA-ZING. The service was top notch too. If you ever fancy visiting New York, but only have a few hours free, I know just the place for you…

The New York-inspired food here is bang up to date, with truffled mac’n’cheese or rare-breed burgers alongside rich New England crab cakes – the crab is actually Cornish. Order a Maple Trace, a cinnamon-twisted version of an Old Fashioned, to go with them. This place is all about old music and mismatched fittings (check out the lights, which come from a Japanese ship), so there’s honky-tonk and old-time jazz with your supper.

Honky Tonk isn’t the place to come if you’re a tee-totaller, a vegetarian or keen to spot the Made In Chelsea set. The relaxed SW10 restaurant serves up American staples like crab cakes, mac’n'cheese and an excellent “Longhorn” beef burger, while we’d recommend getting the apple slaw on the side whatever you’re having.

The real attraction though is the cocktail menu, which includes a selection of drinks that have been aged-in-the-barrel after mixing. Our choices were the Maple Trace, which gives the Old Fashioned a sweet twist, and their tangy Dark and Stormy. For something longer, The Gringo offers a refreshing blend of beer, tequila and grapefruit juice.

The décor’s attention to detail manages the tricky task of capturing the unhurried feel of an American diner without sliding into cliché. In fact, the same could be said for Honky Tonk as a whole. From familiar ingredients, they serve up something quite distinctive.

New York-inspired restaurant and bar Honky Tonk brings an edgy décor and rock‘n’ roll atmosphere to London’s ‘Little Chelsea’. Brainchild of Mark Cutler, one of the founders of Notting Hill institution Supperclub London, this has a very different aim in mind. Regular live blues, jazz and rockabilly music feeds the entertainment side, while the food offering spans classic all-American dishes with elements of Italian and deli-inspired food. The Cocktail Service offers a range of “aged-in-the-barrel” cocktails and signature drinks, and the bar will stock a diverse selection of Bourbons.

New York inspired bar from the founder of supperclub. There’s live music, lots of bourbon and tobacco infused drinks and food in the vein of ribs, meatballs and sliders

Homesick Americans, listen up: there’s a new place to satisfy your craving for potato skins, New England crab cakes and brisket.

Honky Tonk in Chelsea (appropriately located on Hollywood Road) is now open. The 100 cover, New York-inspired restaurant serves everything cobb salad to mac ‘n’ cheese made with roasted wild mushrooms and truffle oil, sliders and ‘not’ fried chicken which is in fact-oven baked. And for dessert there is pecan pie, chocolate brownies and Mamma’s special apple pie.

The new space is the brainchild of Mark Cutler (supperclub London) so expect a well-stocked bar featuring bourbons, U.S.-inspired cocktails like The Gringo (ale, tequila and grapefruit juice with elderflower) and aged-in-a-barrel cocktail which is exactly that. There will also be line up of live music with an emphasis on blues, jazz and rock and, of course, service with a smile. Have a great day!

Mark Cutler, founder of Notting Hill’s Supperclub, has launched a NY-style diner with live music in little Chelsea. Named after the Stones’ No.1 single Honky Tonk Woman, the space is decorated with original rock’n'roll posters, hand-drawn monochrome polka-dot wallpaper and worn brown-leather banquettes. The decor includes fun details like a 1950s vintage concertina lift door, white swimming pool tiles and Japanese ship lights. The menu offers beef or pork ribs, mac’n'cheese with porcini bechamel and Welsh rarebit with black truffle, while the bar offers deviations from British and American classics. Signature cocktails include the elderflower shandy, combining elderflower liquor with lemon juice and white floral beer with a ginger sugar rim, and the Pickleback: bourbon chased with a shot of homemade pickle juice.

The brainchild of Mark Cutler (of Supperclub fame), Honky Tonk is being touted as a good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll restaurant and bar with an underground New York vibe and an eclectic menu of US diner food combined with some Italian deli-style small plates. A wood-burning oven will deliver imaginatively topped focaccias, but the ‘Little Chelsea’ set can also look forward to ribs, quesadillas, sliders, meatballs, crab cakes and other hot numbers to go with US beers, tobacco-infused cocktails, pewter cups of mint julep and of course ‘picklebacks’ (bourbon with a shot of homemade pickle juice). Posters advertising the Stones’ Honky Tonk Woman and other iconic hits will set the mood, as the assembled rocking crowd cranks up in the action against a funky backdrop of hand-drawn polka-dot wallpaper, reclaimed Japanese ship lights, swimming-pool tiles and mismatched Ercol tables.
